CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is performed on a person fully clothed, lying comfortably on a table. Using a light touch - generally no more than the weight of a 10 cent coin - the practitioner monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral system at various points on the body, to detect potential restrictions and imbalances. Delicate manual technqiues are then used to help release these areas.

A CranioSacral Therapy session lasts from 45 minutes to about an hour and the initial evaluation alone may often be enought to correct a problem. The result? A central nervous system eased of any restrictions and a body that's given an opportunity to return to its best level of performance.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into Myofascial connective tissue restrictions, to help eliminate pain and restore motion.

Fascia is a very densely woven, fibrous connective tissue that interpenetrates and surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. It plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies since it surrounds and attaches to all structures.  It is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption, connecting every part of the body like the yarn in a sweater.

When we experience physical trauma, emotional trauma, scarring or inflammation, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, car accident, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture and repetitive stress injuries have cumulative effects on the body. Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure on sensitive structures causing all kinds of symptoms and producing pain, headaches and restriction of motion that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography etc.).

A high percentage of people suffering with undiagnosed pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems.

Energetic Massage Therapy

Energetic Massage Therapy aims to treat every aspect of the client - body, mind, emotion and spirit. It is a truly holistic approach that recognises and respects all aspects of the person. The 'energy' concept relates to 'Ki' or life force energy.

The treatment aims to help the client relax and to assist in the release of tension and energetic blocks in the body which may be having an effect mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually.

The overall intent is to promote harmony & balance using the power of touch.

Testimonials

"I attended Karen for a few sessions as I was having a lot of recurring pain in my shoulder and lower back. In my first session I could feel my hip move and adjust by itself. The relief was immediate. I was a bit stiff for a few days after but couldn’t believe the improvement. Karen also showed me some stretches that I’ve been using since."

Adrian, Cork.

"I was having a really challenging time in work. I had insomnia, felt anxious, and constantly on edge. The sessions with Karen helped me to connect with myself in a surprisingly deep way. I also found them incredibly relaxing. It gave me the time and space and perspective to find my own solutions about what to do."

Aileen, Dublin.

Dual Therapist Treatments for babies and young/sensitive children;

As well as treating children from age 4 upwards in my own Clinic I also treat babies and young children (and potentially their parent(s)) along with another Advanced CranioSacral Therapist, Mags Fitzgerald in a dual-therapis Clinic in Monkstown, Co. Dublin .

In our experience we have found that babies and young children are so closely connected, both physically and energetically, to their primary carer(s) that it has the greatest therapeutic benefit to treat Mum (and/or Dad) & Baby together.

In order to treat the child in a complete and holistic way and to give the the optimum therapeutic outcome it is ideal if the parent(s) have the opportunity to be treated at the same time. In order to facilitate this we use 2 Therapists during the treatment session.

The cost for this speciality & highly recommended dual-therapist treatment session is currently at an introductory price of €95.

These treatment sessions take place in our Monkstown Clinic - 'True Nature' or by arrangement in Terenure.

By appointment only.
