How does CranioSacral Therapy help?

The CranioSacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, all the way down to the tailbone or sacral area - the sacrum.

Like the cardiovascular and respiratory systems that have their own detectable rhythms in the body, so too does the Craniosacral system. As Cerebrospinal fluid is produced and then transported around the brain, spinal cord and nervous system it has its own detectable 'pulse'.

It takes a number of years to develop the very subtle palpation skills required to be able to monitor the CranioSacral rhythm. As this vital system influences both the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord, any restrictions and imbalances can potentially cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities.

When restrictions are identified, very delicate manual techniques are used to help release them, relieving any undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord. An optimally functioning central nervous system assists the body in regulating its 'fight or flight' (sympathetic) and 'rest and digest' (parasympathetic) nervous system activities, reducing stress,  strengthening the body's natural resistance to disease and promoting health & well-being.
